• BARC week 3: Colors continues to lead in urban market

    MUMBAI:  In week 3 of BARC India ratings, Colors continued to lead the list in the urban space and in pay platform also. Star Plus continued to hold its place in second position. This week in urban market Sony Entertainment Television slipped to fifth position from fourth. Zee TV moved to fourth position from fifth.

    Colors, Star Plus, SONY SAB, Zee TV, Sony Entertainment Television, Dangal, STAR Bharat, &TV, STAR Utsav and Big Magic are the top ten channels in urban market in week 3 of 2020.  

  • MIB grants 15 new MSO registrations in Jan

    MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has granted 15 new multi-system operator (MSO) registrations in January.

    Mumbai-based MSO Seven Star has also secured a fresh registration under a separate company called Seven Star Digital Networks. The MSO already has an MSO registration in the name of Seven Star Dot Com.

    The MIB has granted a total of four registrations to MSOs in Maharashtra. These include Seven Star Digital Networks, Maxnet Communication, Barale Cable Network, and DNA Cable.

  • English News viewership decline continues in week 3 of 2020

    BENGALURU: Viewership of English News channels continued a downward spiral in in week 3 of 2020 (Saturday, 18 January 2020 to Friday, 24 January 2020, week under review). Analysis of Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) data of 44 weeks between week 13 of 2019 and week 3 of 2020 reveals that the four week combined average viewership of the top 5 English News channels declined 23 percent for week 53 of 2019 and week 3 of 2020  (4 week period under review) to 1.724 million weekly impressions as compared to the average combined viewership of the 44 week period of 2.235 million weekly impressions. Viewership during the period under review declined 15.1 percent from 2.032 million weekly impressions calculated for the immediate trailing 4 week period (week 49 to week 52 of 2019).
  • Star India to launch Star Gold 2 on February 1

    In its latest offering in the Hindi movie channel category, Star India has announced the launch of Star Gold 2.

    The network is introducing the ‘multiplex strategy’ to the small screen, enabling it to showcase the myriad premieres of the newly acquired Bollywood movies on both Star Gold and Star Gold 2.

  • Lex Sportel launches 1Sports but barred by Delhi HC for using brand DSport

    After the partnership between Discovery Communications and Gurgaon-based Lex Sportel Vision for running Discovery’s sports channel DSport broke earlier this month, the later announced the launch of its sports programming repertoire on its channel 1Sports — a premium sports channel offering for Indian sports fans.
  • Sports genre becomes top gainer in Chrome DM week 3

    MUMBAI: Sports genre has become the top gainer in week 3, 2020 of Chrome Data Analytics and Media data. The genre grew by 8.48 per cent. In this genre, DD Sports channel gained the highest OTS with 98.4 per cent in all India 1 lakh+ market.

    OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 86 million homes, as reported by Chrome DM, across analogue cable, digital cable, and DTH.

  • Sun TV Network moves Madras HC against TRAI amendments; matter adjourned to 4 Feb

    MUMBAI: South Indian broadcaster Sun TV Network has challenged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) amendments to the new regulatory framework in the Madras High Court. The broadcaster’s appeal comes close on the heels of similar appeals filed by the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and other broadcasters before the Bombay High Court.

    The division bench of Chief Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Justice Subramonium Prasad has issued notices to the Union of India (UOI) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The Additional Solicitor General (ASG) has said that the UOI will file an affidavit on behalf of the TRAI as well.

  • BARC week 2: No significant changes in regional space

    MUMBAI: The Regional space did not witness any significant changes in BARC India ratings week 2. No changes were observed in the pecking order of channels in Bangla, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil spaces.

    Zee Bangla, Star Jalsha, Jalsha Movies, Zee Bangla Cinema and Colors Bangla were the top five Bangla channels in week 2 of BARC India ratings.

  • BARC WK 2: Colors leads the Hindi GEC (Urban+Rural); Dangal leads Hindi GEC Rural

    According to BARC data of HSM NCCS All India (Urban+Rural) for week 2 and we see a change, Colors leads the chart for Hindi GEC Pay TV category with 686mn imprssions making previous week’s leader Star Plus land on to the 2nd spot with 658mn impressions. Sony SAB on the third spot with 608mn impressions, Zee TV on the fourth spot with 604mn impressions. On the fifth spot we have Sony Entertainment Television with 468mn impressions and on the sixth spot is Star Bharat with 274mn impressions. Dangal TV on the 7th position with 246mn impressions. Bottom 3 positions on this category were Star Utsav with 182mn impressions, &TV with 162mn impressions and Colors Rishtey with 162mn impressions.
  • South GECs Wk 2: Asianet Leads Malayalam; Star Vijay on the 2nd spot in Tamil category; Zee Kannada leads the Kannada market

    According to BARC Ratings of South GEC for Malayalam: week 2, The following are the ranking of various Regional GECs.

    Malayalam:

    Asianet leads the Malayalam All Platform Top 5 channels category with 311mn impressions followed by Flowers TV with 82mn impressions. Mazhavil Manorama on the 3rd position with 77mn impressions and Surya TV on the 4th spot with 64mn impressions. Zee Keralam secures the 5th spot with 63mn impressions.
