Amazon India and Flipkart recently concluded their big festive sales and have managed to get a good response from the consumers. To ensure that, both brands have invested hugely on Television. Ad insertions by Amazon, which has been ranking as the number 1 advertiser for the past two weeks, went up by 106% in week 39 compared to week 38.
In week 38, Amazon India’s ad insertions were at 14889 but in week 39, it rose to 30729. Flipkart which was number 7 in week 38 with 9860 ad insertions, jumped to the third spot in week 39 with 14251 ad insertions. Santoor Sandal and Turmeric continues to maintain its second position with 16039 ad insertions in week 39. It was at 12963 ad insertions the previous week.

MUMBAI: News Broadcasters Standards Authority (NBSA) has directed English news channel Republic TV to issue an unconditional apology on its channel for the use of strong language in an email exchange with the TV news watchdog.
Republic TV will have to air the text (static) on full screen in large font size with a clearly audible voice-over (in slow speed). The NBSA has asked Republic TV to air the following text as an apology on 14th October at 10 pm.
The text says: “Republic TV tenders an unconditional apology for the use of the language in the email dated 10.7.2019 which carried the words “carries no merit to warrant such intense pseudo judicial oversight”, with regard to NBSA’s decision dated 1.5.2019 at the time when it was called for a hearing on 10.7.2019 in respect of the complaint with regard to a programme titled “Congress Bharat Mata Claim” aired by Republic TV on 12.3.2019 at 10 pm. We would like to state that it was never our intention to undermine the authority of the NBSA in any manner. We have the highest regard for the NBSA, its Chairperson and Members. Kindly accept this unconditional apology for closure of the same.”

The TRAI had issued a consultation paper on ‘Tariff related issues for Broadcasting and Cable services’. Through the consultation paper, the TRAI is looking to ‘fine-tune’ the new tariff order (NTO), which came into effect from February.
Considering the ramifications involved, the consultation paper has received comments from a large of individuals, organisations, and companies. The TRAI has received 282 comments with a large number of local cable operators (LCOs) also providing their suggestions on the way forward for the NTO.
The consultation paper has clearly divided the broadcast sector into two groups. While the broadcasters have told the TRAI not to tinker with NTO as it has just been implemented six months. An overwhelming majority of the distribution platform operators (DPOs) have welcomed the points raised by the TRAI in the consultation paper.
