MUMBAI: Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on Wednesday directed broadcasters to adhere to its Policy Guidelines for Uplinking of Television Channels From lndia, 2011 and ensure that there is no violation of the same.
The Ministry intervened after certain media networks ran campaigns on social media announcing coverage of election results on some of their non-news channels.
Under the rules, the Ministry grants permission for uplinking of TV channels under two categories - Non-News & Current Affairs and News & Current Affairs.
The verdict of the 2019 Lok Sabha Election results will be out today and the big question among Indian media houses is if their viewership is going to beat that of GECs once again.
Will viewers watch more news than their daily soaps today? Industry experts say that going by past records viewership on news-heavy days, at least this year, was more than GECs it should be no different today.
"Counting day will overtake past records as there is a huge euphoria for results and will have a far more reach than GECs," said Varun Kohli, CEO, iTV Network.
Prabhat Chatterjee has been appointed as National Revenue Head of India Today TV.
He will be reporting to Rahul Kumar Shaw and will be based at ITG Mediaplex, Noida.
Prior to this Chatterjee was with Discovery Communication as Senior Director and National Revenue Head for the entire Discovery Cluster of channels - Discovery Channel, Discovery HD World, Discovery Tamil, Discovery Science and Discovery Turbo.
His previous stints have been across the Star Network of channels, Times Group and IT firm Microland. Chatterjee’s vast experience includes GEC, radio, domestic and international markets, a portfolio of clients across industries.
MUMBAI: Media conglomerate ZEEL has brought back classic Hindi movie channel Zee Classic after a short hiatus. The channel was shut down and replaced with a new Hindi movie channel Zee Bollywood in August 2018.
ZEEL had got the licence to launch Zee Classic from the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) in February. Zee Classic is India’s only Hindi movie channel that showcases films from the golden era of Hindi cinema.
The channel with its core proposition ‘Woh Zamaana Kare Deewana’, is back again on popular demand featuring an all-new look.
MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has issued an advisory regarding carrying of news and current affairs content on TV channels. The advisory states that in accordance with the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking of Television Channels From India, 2011, the ministry gives permission for uplinking of TV channels under two categories: (i) non-news & current affairs; and (ii) news & current affairs.
The ministry stated that a non-news & current affairs TV channel means a channel which does not have any element of news and current affairs in its programme content. It also said that a news & current affairs TV channel means a channel which has any element of news and current affairs in its programme content.
Infotainment genre secured the second position in gainers list with 3.32 per cent growth. National Geographic Channel (NGC) gained the highest OTS in the genre with 80.0 per cent in All India 1 Lakh+ market.
Youth genre grew by 2.08 per cent followed by Hindi movies ( 1.91 per cent) and Hindi GEC (0.59 per cent). In Youth genre, MTV gained the highest OTS with 79.6 per cent OTS in HSM excluding less than 1 lakh market. B4U Movies secured highest OTS in Hindi movies genre with 85.3 OTS in HSM excluding less than 1 lakh market while DD National gained highest OTS with 99.1 per cent.
MUMBAI: Saregama’s Yoodlee Films is betting big on content-driven films by collaborating with over-the-top (OTT) platforms. While the production house is streaming six of its films on Netflix, it has also struck a deal with another leading platform, Hotstar. Yoodlee Films VP films and television Siddharth Anand Kumar also hinted that deals with other OTT platforms are also being signed now. However, the content studio is firm on its policy to retain the IP of films to build a large catalogue.
Kumar also added that although Yoodlee Films releases theatrical films as well, half the films produced eventually make it to the digital platform. While in the last two and a half years Yoodlee has produced 15 films, this year it has released Hamid and Music Teacher as of now. Another 10 films are the pipeline for 2019.
