    MUMBAI: Along with focusing on reaching out to global audiences, digital content network One Digital Entertainment is also focusing on the niche regional ones. Meanwhile, localisation of content is a key focus area this year.

    “Besides the content for Hindi and English speaking audiences, we have a lot of creators producing content in regional languages like Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, Haryanvi, Bhojpuri, and Gujarati etc.  And we are strongly looking at expanding it. The localisation of content is a key focus area this year,” One Digital Entertainment (ODE) COO and co-founder Gurpreet Singh commented in an interview with indiantelevision.com.

  • Agencies, advertisers weigh in on BARC India filtering out outlier data

    MUMBAI: Recently, The Broadcast Audience Research Council India (BARC) announced that it is reverting to its earlier process of treatment of landing pages and filtering out outliers from the data as it released its week 23 ratings. This came just a week after the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) verdict allowing broadcasters and distributors of television channels to place registered satellite television channels (whose TV rating was measured by BARC India) on the landing page or boot up screen.

Enterr 10 TV’s Hindi GEC Dangal, the normal occupier of first place in non-IPL week’s after the implementation of TRAI’s new tariff order climbed down to second place during the week under review.

    And now that ICC’s World Cup 2019 cricketing tourney is on, Star India’s Hindi Sports channel – Star Sports 1 Hindi re-entered BARC’s weekly across genres list at third rank in week 23 of 2019. Consequently, a number of channels dropped a rank in week 23 of 2019 as compared to their ranks in the previous week. Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) Hindi movies channel Sony Max also re-entered BARC’s across genres list on the back of SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali The Conclusion and old faithful Sooryavansham among other movies at tenth rank.

  • ALTBalaji’s content investment will be in Rs 100-125 cr range

    MUMBAI: Balaji Telefilms’ content spend on creating original content for its subscription VoD platform ALTBalaji will be in the Rs 100 to 125 crore range. The company’s overall investment in the ALTBalaji business will be in the range of Rs 150 to 170 crore for the next couple of years.

    “We are still aiming to be in that Rs.150 to Rs.170 Crores range, which we have always guided. The overall investment of which Rs100-125 crores will be the content,” the company’s management said during the Q4 earnings conference call.

    ALTBalaji’s revenue split between direct and in-direct subscribers was Rs 15 crore and Rs 25 crore respectively. The company’s strategy is to increase direct subscriber in the coming years. The company is expecting ALTBalaji’s revenue to double in FY20.

    “I think right now as we are 40% we see this value growth to more than 50% in times to come, right maybe 50%, 60% our purpose is to eventually expand our direct subscriber base, what the telco partnership does give us is ease of distributions, it distributes to many places,” the management stated.

  • Reliance Jio Media proposes Rs 18 cr as minimum net worth criteria for MSOs

    MUMBAI: Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Media has suggested that the minimum net worth criteria for a multi system operator (MSO) should be Rs 18 crore.

    In its counter comment to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) consultation paper on ‘Entry Level Net worth requirement of Multi-system Operators in Cable TV services’, the Reliance Jio-owned MSO stated that the company has considered basic CAPEX requirements for establishing an MSO infrastructure have been considered to arrive at this amount.

    The net worth amount is based on channel capacity of 300 and 50,000 subscribers which is the minimum number of subscribers for a viable MSO business.

    BENGALURU: News18 India catapulted to first rank in week 23 of 2019 (Saturday, 1 June 2019 to Friday, 7 June 2019, week under review) from third rank in week 22 in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) weekly list of top 5 Hindi news channels in the urban Hindi speaking market – HSM (U).  In the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking market – HSM (U+R), News18 India also jumped up two ranks in the week under review to second place from fourth in the previous week. Aaj Tak retained its first rank in HSM (U+R) and the rural Hindi speaking market – HSM (R) during week 23.
