• News channels see festive cheer in ad bills

    With consumer sentiments slowly returning to normal, news broadcasters have seen a spike in ad sales thanks to the festive cheer. Alongside the festivities, a news heavy fortnight with Bihar elections and the US elections have kept the audience glued to the news genre pushing its popularity among advertisers.

    As per industry estimates, festive billings have seen close to 80%-100% recovery. Broadcasters are hoping for the uptick to continue till the end of the year.

     

    “TV advertising has witnessed a steady upsurge this festive season. In fact, festive this year has been better than last year with Sept- Nov witnessing 60% growth on the Covid tenure. The next four months too are expected to see pre-Covid levels of advertising with many new categories going active due to change in lifestyles amidst the pandemic,” said Gaurav Dhawan, EVP - Revenue, Times Network.

    The advertising volume in the education sector grew 3 more than the same period last year whereas the ad volumes of ecommerce education grew 5 times

    Education and ecom-education sectors witnessed a huge growth during the lockdown period as schools moved on to conducting online classes. This surge led to a huge rise in ad volumes during August to October 2020 as compared to the same period in 2019, shows data provided by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).

     

    The advertising volume in the education sector has grown 3-fold compared to the same period last year, whereas the ad volume of ecommerce education has increased 5 times.

    MUMBAI: For its upcoming show Kaatelal & Sons, Sony Sab has released a new campaign Sapno Ka Koi Gender Nahi Hota (dreams have no gender) to underscore the premise of the story – that if you have a goal, you can achieve it irrespective of your gender and the diktats of society. Featuring the serial’s lead actresses, Megha Chakraborty and Jiya Shankar, it challenges gender stereotypes in a patriarchal world with the message Khol Dimaag Ka Shutter (Open up your mind). The music video is composed by the popular music producer Mayur Jumani, who also makes a cameo appearance. 

    The daily soap is inspired by the true story of two sisters – Susheela (Jia Shankar) and Garima (Megha Chakraborty) – who, during a rough patch, take on their father’s ancestral business of running a local men’s hair salon in Rohtak. However, daddy dearest Dharampal (Ashok Lokhande) feels that his business, named Kaatelal & Sons, can’t be passed on to his daughters. As per his beliefs, women are not supposed to pursue such a profession, but his daughters are determined to keep the shop and take it to new heights.

    MUMBAI: With the ongoing festive season, Zee TV has been packing one exciting surprise after another for its audiences by way of three new fiction shows in October and another exciting supernatural fantasy thriller Brahmarakshas on its way in November. Things are only going to get bigger and better in the coming year as the channel is all set to revolutionise the face and sound of music on television in early 2021.     Bhojpuri general entertainment channel Big Ganga is bringing an annual musical event ‘Jai Chhathi Mai’, celebrating the biggest festival of the region, the divine Chhath.

    Big Ganga will elevate the fervour of Chhath by celebrating SiyaRam Ki Chhath for the first time in the Bhojpuri entertainment space. This musical extravaganza will be telecast on November 20 from 5-7pm on the channel.

    The rituals of Chhath hold immense significance to Ram and Sita as per folklore dating to the ancient time of TretaYuga. The ancient belief states that Goddess Sita, on returning from exile, kept a fast and performed Chhath rituals for Lord Rama as he had committed Brahmdosh — the deed of killing Ravana, who was a high-class Brahmin and one of the most-learned men of the three realms. And based on this belief among many others, Chhath Puja has become an important Hindu festival observed by women in the UP, Bihar and Jharkhand regions. The channel through this festive offering brings on board Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhalia.   • TV9 Network announces increments with retrospective effect from April 2020

    This Diwali, TV9 Network announced increments for its employees across all levels with retrospective effect from April 2020. The network released the arrears before Diwali and is now preparing for an annual appraisal in March 2021, according to the sources.

    “We are announcing flat percentage increase, based on salary slabs,  because we didn’t believe it was prudent to differentiate, given that all of us have worked as one: one network, one team. All employees who joined the organisation on or before September 30, 2019, will be eligible for the increment,” Barun Das, CEO, TV9 Network, wrote in an internal email to the staff members.

    At a time when most of the media houses were forced to cut salaries and lay off employees, TV9 network refrained from these measures despite the pressures.
