• Prasar Bharati adds five new part-time members to its board

    New Delhi: Prasar Bharati board has appointed five new part-time members on that includes music composer Salim Merchant, BJP leader Shaina NC, media personality Sanjay Gupta, veteran journalist Ashok Tandon and corporate personality Alok Agarwal.

    Prasar Bharati, in the process to fill nine vacant positions in its 13-member board, the members will be on the board that oversees the functioning of Doordarshan and the All India Radio. Tandon has also been the media advisor to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

  • MIB proposes bringing OTT under its purview

    The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has proposed bringing under its purview OTT content, media reports have said.

    So far, content being streamed on digital platforms was coming under the IT ministry. I&B ministry Amit Khare has proposed a convergence of ministries.

    Khare has been reported as saying that the country has no regulations for emerging media like OTT unlike the traditional forms of media

  • Tata Sky leads pay DTH chart with largest number of subscribers, says TRAI report

    The DTH provider emerged as the largest platform in terms of subscribers with 31.80% market share followed by Dish TV at 30.55%. 

    The pay direct-to-home (DTH) segment has grown with 69.98 million active users among the four pay DTH service providers in the country, according to recent TRAI data. This is in addition to subscribers of DD Free Dish, the report said.

    According to the report, Tata Sky leads with 31.80% market share, followed by Dish TV with 30.55%. Airtel and Sun Direct accounted for 23.31% and 14.35% share each. The report says Tata Sky is 1.5X the size of Hathway, Den and GTPL Hathway all combined.
