• South GECs WK 24: Mazhavil Manorama moves up to the 3rd spot in Malayalam GEC Market while Star Maa leads the Telugu category

    Week 24 of BARC Ratings saw the Top 5 channels in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada genre maintain status quo with no changes in the positions.

    According to BARC Ratings of South GEC for week 24, the following are the ranking of various Regional GECs.

    Malayalam:

    Asianet leads the Malayalam GEC category followed by Surya TV on the 2nd spot. Mazhavil Manorama moves up and secures the 3rd spot and for the last two spots we have Flowers TV and Zee Keralam.

  • MIB grants registration to 18 new MSOs in last 3 months

    The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has granted registration to 18 new multi-system operators (MSOs) in the last three months (March 13, 2020 to 24 June, 2020).

    The total number of registered MSOs now stands at 1664.

    Among those to have got the registration are - Cloudnet Infocom Pvt. Ltd, Global Vision Cable TV & Internet, -Digital Network Pvt. Ltd, Digicast Network Pvt. Ltd, Bongaon Cable T.V. Network, FM Video, Uma Cable, Baroda Cable Network, Star Digital Cable TV Network, Smart India Digital Services and RK Digital Cable Network.

    Mumbai: After a brief hiatus following the nationwide lockdown in India owing to the COVID-19 situation, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) has obtained all relevant government permissions to resume production for its television, film and OTT businesses in India.

    The network is working closely with its production partners to ensure shoots resume in a controlled environment with strict compliance to all necessary government rules, regulations and safety protocols.

    At SPN, health, hygiene and sanitisation are taken very seriously, and the network is doing all that it can to ensure the safety of its cast, crew and production partners. Other than cast and crew members, visitors will not be allowed on the sets.

    BENGALURU: Television consumption decreased slightly (reduced 0.6 percent) in Week 23 of 2020 (Saturday, 6 June 2020 to Friday, 12 June 2020) to 16.3 billion weekly impressions as compared to the previous week which had scored 16.4 billion weekly impressions according to Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) weekly data. BARC had reported viewership of 16.3 billion impressions for week 21 of 2020. This number is still 12.4 percent higher than the viewership of 14.5 billion impressions reported for week four of 2020.
  • NDTV Group posts Rs 14 Cr jump in profit after tax over last financial year

    At the company board meeting, the re-appointment of Dr Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy as Whole-Time Directors designated as Executive Co-Chairpersons was also announced 

    The NDTV Group is announcing its best result in ten years with a profit after tax of ₹ 24.22 crores for 2019-2020. For the second year in a row, NDTV Limited, the broadcast section of
    the Group, is also closing the financial year with profit after tax.

    At the Group level, the profit after tax has increased by ₹ 14 crores over the last financial year. The Group’s focus on furthering its synergy of operations and resources continues.

    In the previous financial year, NDTV Consolidated reported a profit after tax of Rs 10.2 crore.

    NEW DELHI: After months of standstill, GECs across some states have been permitted to resume indoor shooting of serials with strict guidelines. Regional channels are slowly treading the path to normalcy, Malayalam GECs being one. 

    Malayala Manorama Television COO Satheesh PR shares, “Traditionally, most Malayalam fiction has been indoors. There are some arrangements through the government-owned Chitranjali studios to enable outdoor shoot in a controlled environment and we have a large studio floor of our own which will be put to use for non-fiction with all the guidelines being followed.
