Thursday’s press conference held by Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh to reveal that the police had unearthed a ‘TRP racket’, and named Republic TV, Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema, has turned into a high-voltage drama.

Immediately after the press conference, Republic TV had announced that it will take legal action against the Police Commissioner.

Waving the copies of the FIR, Arnab Goswami asked for the resignation of the Police Commissioner, who, earlier in the day, claimed that police had evidence against Republic TV. Republic said that the channel’s name mentioned in the FIR was India Today.

Malayalam:

Asianet has been a consistent performer and a leader in the Malayalam category. The channel in week 38 had garnered a total of 284mn impressions which in week 39 had a rise of 1mn impressions to 285mn, next on the chart is Flowers TV with 106mn impressions and the 3rd spot is secured by Mazhavil Manorama with 93mn impressions. The last two spots consist of Zee Keralam with 78mn impressions and Surya TV with 77mn impressions respectively.

Mumbai: This afternoon the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Shri Param Bir Singh in a Press Conference on the BARC meter tampering case, named three channels including Fakt Marathi and Republic for manipulating TRP’s and paying people to watch Republic TV.

Statement from Praveen Nijhara – CEO, Hansa Research reveals that one of its ex-employee engaged in wrongdoing and the company has launched a police complaint against him after due consultation with BARC India.

The statement issued by Hansa Research said, “This is with reference to the media reports regarding TRP ratings being manipulated. Hansa Research and BARC conducted an investigation into the matter over the last few weeks, the conclusion of which resulted in Hansa Research filing an FIR against an ex-employee who was engaged in some wrongdoing. 

Even before the debate on content versus ratings could come to a logical conclusion, recent findings by the Mumbai police surrounding viewership measurements have put forth a new issue. In a case of what is being called the ‘TRP racket’, the Mumbai police has named a national news channel alongside two other regional channels, accusing them of tampering with BARC data.

While the police continue to investigate how BARC ratings were manipulated, they have also clearly mentioned ‘funds from advertising will be considered proceeds of crime’ if the accused are found guilty. Further investigations will also include a probe on finding out whether advertisers are victims or complicit in the case.

MUMBAI: This is big in the world of media and entertainment. The professional who helmed Star India for the past 11 years and saw it through with its merger with Disney – Uday Shankar- has decided to step down.

The  president, The Walt Disney Company APAC and chairman, Star & Disney India, will be leaving effective  31 December 2020, it was announced today by Rebecca Campbell, chairman of Disney’s direct-to-consumer & international segment.

Over the next three months, Shankar will work closely with Campbell to identify his successor to ensure a smooth transition.
